We would like to take a moment to share with you the experiences that drew us to this locale and compelled us to create a community that we hope will draw you in as well.

The seeds for Sunset Mountain Village were sown in the fall of 2000 during a relaxing, refreshing visit to Pocahontas County. We spent the following weeks brainstorming about how we could spend more time in this beautiful area. Our backgrounds in construction, development & finance gave legs to our most compelling concept: creating an idyllic community. After months of planning we formed a development company, SME Inc, and purchased acreage on historic Valley Mountain, Snowshoe Mountain’s sister to the west. Our dream began to come to life.

As we envisioned what Sunset Mountain Village would become, our foremost thought was to develop an environment within which we could reclaim the easy exuberance of our youth, something we had lost in our hectic, daily routines. We wanted the community to be a place to celebrate life’s simple joys, like fishing, camping & hiking, and where we could sink into the peacefulness of watching a gorgeous sunset or feel the pleasure of making a perfect cast.

Throughout the years that followed, with lots of patience and hard work, our professional experience and unwavering vision allowed us to grow Sunset Mountain Village into the most desirable, private community in the Snowshoe Mountain area. In this enchanting place, where clear streams bring life to the mountains and stunning vistas stir the senses, worries seem to melt away.
